TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 2, 2010) - As part of its ongoing commitment to the FreeSWITCH community, Sangoma(R) Technologies Corporation (TSX VENTURE:STC), a leading supplier of hardware and software enabling server-based voice and data communication applications, today announced the company is extending its support of the FreeSWITCH project by contributing to the powerful Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) interface module, FreeTDM. Replacing the previous FreeSWITCH connectivity software called OpenZap, FreeTDM, available in FreeSWITCH version 1.0.5, evolves this important module with a new Sangoma software architecture that improves the usability, scalability and completeness of PSTN protocol support resulting in increased reliability for mission-critical applications running on open source.
FreeTDM is available to all application developers and project contributors to source code under the FreeSWITCH license. The software will continue to be updated and maintained by Sangoma but the entire FreeSWITCH community will have access to it and have the ability to contribute to its development.
"With resources now dedicated to maintaining and evolving this very important module, Sangoma is helping take TDM connectivity to the next level," said Anthony Minessale, lead developer of the FreeSWITCH project. "Previously, there were no dedicated resources to this part of the project so functionality and performance were always a fraction of what it could be. Everyone involved in the project recognizes the significance of Sangoma's support of the FreeSWITCH project over the years and we are excited they are extending their level of support by taking ownership of this very important module."
"We've been steadily increasing our level of commitment to the FreeSWITCH project in recognition of the growing importance this particular open source community has in the development of innovative and powerful IP communication applications," said Serge Forest, Vice President of Marketing at Sangoma.
Sangoma's complete line of TDM hardware products are compatible with the FreeTDM framework, including full Sangoma support for analog, PRI, BRI, SS7 and MFC-R2 telephony cards.
FreeTDM is available for both Windows and Linux operating systems. The latest version of FreeSWITCH is available for download at www.freeswitch.org.
FreeSWITCH is an open source software communications platform designed to facilitate the creation of voice and chat driven products scaling from a soft-phone up to a soft-switch. It is released under the MPL free software license and can be used as a simple switching engine, a PBX, a media gateway or a media server to host IVR applications using simple scripts or XML to control the call flow. Its core library, libfreeswitch, is capable of being embedded into other projects, as well as being used as a stand-alone application.
