Unified communications continues to evolve
Wednesday, February 01, 2012 at 11:20:06 pm
The technology underlying unified communications has come a long way in recent years to help businesses grow and improve. However, there is still some confusion about unified communications which may be causing decision-makers to resist deploying the services, according to a Telecom Reseller report.
To clarify the definition, unified communications is not a single product or service. Instead, it is a means to an end. It is a way for applications, devices and networks to operate together seamlessly, allowing employees to speak with anyone at any time, the news source reported.
Additionally, legacy communication solutions can be converted into UC-enabled services, allowing companies to expand their technological horizon and deploy new technologies. For example, unified communication-enabled applications can then be deployed in the cloud, Telecom Reseller said, enabling the business to save even more money with reduced maintenance costs and low monthly payments.
Unified communications can integrate many types of solutions, including email, messaging and VoIP. It also allows businesses to make faster decisions and deploy technologies quicker by improving employee presence, marking which individuals are available to interact and which are not.
